Course Description
Heart failure is the number one cause of hospitalization for elderly patients in the United States. Nearly, 6 million people have heart failure in the United States with an additional 670,000 new individuals being diagnosed with this condition annually. Congestive heart failure occurs when the heart weakens and is unable to pump blood efficiently. To compensate the kidneys respond by causing the body to retain water and salt. This excess water and salt accumulates in the ankles, arms, legs, and organs causing them to become congested. Currently, there is no cure for congestive heart failure however those with congestive heart failure can live long active lives by taking medication and making lifestyle changes.
This module was created to educate individuals with congestive heart failure and their caregivers using Qstream, an interactive spaced education program, to deliver small amounts of educational material over spaced intervals via interactive e-mails. The Congestive Heart Failure - Patient Education for Patients and their Caregivers' module consists of 36 questions and tips that will educate patients and their caregivers on how to manage and live with congestive heart failure. The learner will receive an e-mail from Qstream every other day. Questions will be retired once the learner has answered the question correctly. It is estimated that a learner will complete this course in six weeks.
